01 Common problems

Common email problems I fix.

Email that's stopped working is a usual call. Gmail, Outlook, BT email and similar accounts are examples of what people use. I don't work for those companies. I get the email working on your computer and phone.

  1. It won't send, or it won't arrive.

    It can be a wrong password or settings, a full mailbox, an attachment that's too big, or connection or server problems. I get it working on your computer and phone. I'll tell you the likely figure before I start.

  2. It's on one device and not the other.

    It has vanished from one device, or it shows on your phone and not the computer. I get it working on every computer and phone, and write down what I changed.

  3. You're locked out.

    Find any passwords you've written down before I arrive. On a home visit, or remotely for £30/hour if your internet works, I help you go through the provider's official account recovery, then help secure the account. Recovery depends on the provider.

  4. A new laptop.

    I set it up with you there, then move your files, photos and email across from the old one.

02 Hacked email

Think you've been hacked? Do this first.

From a clean device, change the password, turn on two-step sign-in, and check for forwarding rules you didn't set. Then call me. If bank details were involved, call your bank first.

03 Every device

Email on the computer and the phone.

I get it working on every computer and phone, and write down what I changed. I set up email on tablets too.

04 Before I arrive

Find your passwords before I arrive.

Charge the laptop, and find any passwords you've written down, especially for email. If it's a new laptop, keep the old one handy so I can move things across.

05 Prices

Clear prices.

Pay per visit. No contracts, no monthly fee. Email on a home visit uses the same rates. If your internet works and it's a quick software or email fix, I can do it remotely for £30/hour.

These are just the hourly rate added up — £35 for the first hour, then £15 for each extra half hour. I'll tell you the likely figure before I start.

  • Parts, if needed, are quoted before I buy anything.
  • I don't do screen or board-level repairs at your home; I'll tell you where to take it, or whether a replacement makes more sense.
  • If the same problem comes back within 14 days, the return visit is on me.
