01What I fix

Slow, new or not working.

Most laptop and PC repair is software, settings and moving things across. These are the usual calls.

  1. A slow laptop or PC.

I find out why: too much starting up, a full or failing drive, stuck updates, or something that shouldn't be there. Then I tidy it up and show you the difference.

  2. Worth fixing, or time for a new one?

I'll tell you straight. If a part would keep it going for longer, I'll quote it before I buy anything. If it isn't worth the money, I'll say so and help you choose a replacement.

  3. A new laptop to set up.

I set it up with you there: accounts, updates, security, printer and Wi-Fi. Then I move your files, photos and email across from the old one.

  4. Email that's stopped working.

It won't send, won't arrive, or has vanished from one device. I get it working on every computer and phone, and write down what I changed.

  5. Windows updates and Windows 11.

Stuck updates, Windows 11 questions, or a computer that says it can't upgrade. I explain your options in plain English before changing anything.

02Visit or remote

Kitchen table, or remote.

Most laptop and PC repair is a home visit, so I can see the machine and everything it connects to. If your internet works and it's a quick software or email fix, I can do it remotely for £30/hour. You start the session and can end it at any time. I will never call you out of the blue asking to connect.

Before I arrive

Charge the laptop, and find any passwords you've written down, especially for email. If it's a new laptop, keep the old one handy so I can move things across.

04Questions

Laptop questions.

Do you do laptop repair in Saltdean at home?

Yes. I'm based in Saltdean, so most laptop repair here is a short home visit. Rottingdean, Telscombe Cliffs, Ovingdean, Woodingdean and Peacehaven are a few minutes away, and Brighton & Hove is the same rates.

My computer is really slow. Is it worth fixing?

Often, yes. Slow computers are usually software, a full drive or too much starting up, and a tidy-up fixes it. If it needs a part, I'll quote it first. If it isn't worth the money, I'll tell you.

Can you move everything from my old laptop to my new one?

Yes. Files, photos, email and bookmarks, and I set up the printer and Wi-Fi on the new one. A new laptop set up with everything moved across usually comes to £65–£125 (two to four hours). A lot of that is waiting for updates and files to copy.

Can you upgrade my computer to Windows 11?

If it's able to, yes. Some older computers can't, and I'll tell you what that means for you in plain English, including whether it's time to replace it.

Do you fix cracked screens?

Not at your home. Screen and board-level repairs need a workshop. I'll tell you straight whether it's worth it, and set up the replacement if it isn't.

05Where

Close to home.
