01What I help with
Unhurried computer help at their kitchen table.
Computer help for elderly parents is a big part of what I do around Brighton, Saltdean and nearby. These are the usual calls.
-
Email, photos and video calls.
Getting email working again, seeing the grandchildren's photos, and joining a video call without a panic beforehand.
-
A new laptop or tablet, set up properly.
I set it up with them there, move things across from the old one, and show them the few things they'll actually use.
-
Wi-Fi and printers.
The two things that stop working most. I fix them and show them what to do if it happens again.
-
Scam calls and pop-ups.
If someone has called “from Microsoft” or “BT”, or a pop-up wants a phone call, I check the computer, clean it up and secure their accounts. If bank details were involved, call the bank first.
-
Learning one thing at a time.
If they'd like to learn, I go slowly, one task at a time, and leave written steps in plain English. No jargon, and no making anyone feel daft for asking.
02How it works
Booking for someone else.
-
Step 1
You call or message.
Tell me what's wrong and where they live. On the form below, tick “I'm booking for someone else”. I'll give you a likely cost before I set off.
-
Step 2
I visit them.
At a time that suits them. I go at their pace, explain in plain English, and fix what I can on the visit.
-
Step 3
You hear what I did.
I leave written steps with them and, if you like, ring or message you afterwards to say what I changed.
Same problem back?
If the same problem comes back within 14 days, the return visit is on me. No contract and no monthly fee.

04Questions
Questions from sons and daughters.
Will you go at Dad's pace?
Yes. I take my time, explain in plain English and leave written steps. No jargon, and no making anyone feel daft for asking. If he'd rather try it himself while I watch, that's fine too.
Do you offer computer help for elderly people in Brighton, or only Saltdean?
Both. I'm based in Saltdean, and Rottingdean, Telscombe Cliffs, Ovingdean, Woodingdean and Peacehaven are a few minutes away. Further into Brighton & Hove the rates are the same; I'll confirm any travel charge on the phone before booking.
I live away. Can I book, and will you tell me what you did?
Yes. Call, WhatsApp or email with their address and what's gone wrong. After the visit I'll ring or message you to say what I did, and leave written steps with them.
Can you set up a new tablet or laptop for Mum as a present?
Yes. I'll set it up with her, move things across from the old one, and show her the few things she'll actually use. A new laptop set up with files and email moved across usually comes to £65–£125 (two to four hours). A lot of that is waiting for updates and files to copy.
Dad thinks he's been scammed. What should he do?
Switch the computer off, leave it off, and call me. If bank details were involved, call the bank first on the number on the card. Scam clean-ups usually come to about £65–£95 (two to three hours), and I'll give a likely band before I start.
